The adventure is finally here. Early morning departure from Our Savior Lutheran in Bettendorf at 3am. Very uneventful caravan to Chicago, luggage unloaded, boarding passes and security. International flights allow 2 pieces at 50 pounds each. We had decided to take 1 extra piece - at a cost of $100, with all of the overflow donations planning on being shipped later in August to Food for the Poor which will then ship to Hope House in Haiti. Contrary to all published information, an extra bag is not allowed even with fees. So there we were at the boarding counter with 1 extra bag. Unfortunately, the bag that randomly got set aside contained one of the power drills and an assortment of other items. A quick call back to our drivers that had already left with the possibility of maybe needing to return before they got too far. With some quick scrambling we distributed all of the items between our carry ons after verifying yes even the power drill would be allowed on, we then quickly passed through security and are awaiting our departure from Chicago to Miami and our drivers continued on their way home.
Our service trip to Haiti would be impossible without the abundent contributions of the members of Our Savior. We took 11 bags of supplies plus many of our personal bags also partially loaded with additional supplies. On top of all that we could take we had about 300 pounds that we had to leave behind that will be shipped later.
Contributors to this service trip include:
Our Savior Lutheran Vacation Bible School
Congregational ingathering
Support of our congregation through financial support

My apologies to anybody that has been missed, we will review and make sure everyone it thanked.
